Digital Masters Online Imaging Training & Support

The main question I get from clients doing their own imaging and printing is...

"Why don't my prints match my monitor?"

The Problem...

Virtually every image that comes in for fine art archival printing via our 'Send Us Your Files' service has colour management problems, colour shifts and is too dark with little or no shadow detail. I, David Myers am a fine art / exhibition printer with over a third of a century's worth of technical photography, colour lab and digital imaging experience. I personally 'fix' each image and send online approval proofs before printing. Sadly though lightening dark 8bit JPG images creates poor tonality, colour degradation, posterization, colour banding and 'noisy' shadows - problems that even I can not completely fix!

The Solution...

You can learn how to quickly 'basically' calibrate your monitor without expensive devices: The training process requires me to send you our colour calibrafion print first so you have a 'reference' image/print set. I then teach you how to configure your camera and PhotoShop colour management for professional printing. You will then learn all about fundamental image optimisation, sharpening, layout work for exhibition printing, file archiving and file transfers etc.

Support...

The training is completed by optimising one of your own 'bad' images - ideally going from a 'Camera Raw' file to an archival TIF 'digital master' file. Example files with 'correction layers are provided for download (they are large) and used as a reference for future projects. Questions are answered 'on-the-fly', usually via email so you have a written reference.

2: Order our monitor calibration reference print and optional training

The calibration image is printed at 8 x 10in on Ilford Galerie Pearl exhibition quality paper
The cost plus packing and mailing (Australia only) is $33.00

1 - 2 hours online calibration,colour management, PhotoShop set-up training and image
