The image is everything! Lots of companies now offer 'Prints-on-Canvas' but we are primarily 'imaging' specialists not a discount print house that gets a junior operator to just open your file and hit the print button! For over thirty years we have made our living optimising, retouching and 'Digitally Mastering' images. We have the longest history and the most experience with digital imaging, technical and cosmetic retouching, photo restoration and fine art printing. We work with you to perfect your images with online approval proofing and free consutation. You will be stunned when you see our results - see some simple examples here We use 'Museum Approved' archival print systems: The same Epson printers as the ones that produced the recent Amsterdam Rembrandt Exhibition. These units print high density oil based pigment on 350gsm acid free artist's canvas - just like a real oil painting. We air cure and harden the pigment image for 24 hours and add three coats of anti-abrasion UV lacquer increasing fade resistance to over 85 years! The sizes listed utilise the full width of the rolls reducing wastage and optimising the prices! Not
all canvas is fine art canvas! The 350gsm Epson Premium Fine
Art Water Resistant Canvas we use has a very fine bright white coating that
allows the true canvas weave to show through. Many other companies use flimsy
nylon canvas that costs half as much and has a matt plastic coating with
an embossed 'honeycomb' pattern. The use of premium gloss canvas and gloss
lacquer brings out the richness of the colours and produces stunning fine
art black and white imagery. Matt canvas can't provide this richness as blacks
appear as dark grey. Our 'Fine Photography' exhibitors use our new lustre
and gloss fibre papers for this reason. |

Art Printing
Getting Started: We can professionally scan all film formats and prints and directly digitise original artworks up to 1m x 2m. If you send a file it should be 'Adobe RGB' (sRGB is for amatuer prints and web). Resolution should be 300dpi for A4 size, at least 200dpi for prints up to A3 size, 150dpi for up to A2 size and 100dpi for A1 and larger. If your image is lower resolution we have special 'BlowUp' software to enlarge and smooth small images: Examples You can eMail JPG files up to 10Mb or mail a disc with uncompressed TIF or RAW camera files. We optimise the tones and colours of your image, eMail you a proof for approval and quote on any additional retouching required. Image Rescue: Are your camera images too small for BIG prints? We have special software to sample them up: Examples. If your monitor is uncalibrated it will likely be too bright and you will be producing very dark images! We can adjust the tones of your images, optimise for fine art printing and perform retouching and photo restorations. See some recent Image Makeovers: Here Unframed Canvas: You can order rolled canvases to significantly reduce packing and shipping costs for interstate clients. We still add the wrapping borders you need for stretch framing and we print wrapping guide lines on the edges to assist your framer. Optional Stretch Framing: We use the professional framing services of Framing Workshop one of Australia's top fine art framers. They custom build rigid, heavy duty 40mm section frame from acid free fully seasoned wood. (We don't use flimsy 32mm section frames or 'frame kits' that can shrink and develop loose joints!) The stretched canvas is neatly backed with paper, fitted with wall 'bumpers' and corrosion resistant hanger wire - large frames are cross braced for strength. They represent top craftmanship! We can create various border finishes and 'image wrap' effects: As canvas prints need to be stretched around a frame we need to add a 40mm white or coloured border around your image for the stretcher frame sides. If you want to 'Wrap' the image around the sides we can clone, expand or 'mirror' part of your canvas front image outwards into this area. A further 23.5mm unprinted border is then added for back stapling the canvas onto the stretcher frame.
Canvas Borders for Traditional Framing: Canvas is unique as it needs to be ‘stretched’ over a wooden frame to remove wrinkles. If the image is an old painting, traditional art or a classic portrait it will probably look best with a traditional frame. If so all you need is a border wide enough to wrap around the edges of the ‘stretcher’ for side stapling - Say 50mm all (Adding 100mm total to your chosen image size). Bear in mind that the chosen frame may obscure up to 10 - 15mm of the image edges. 'Wrapped Canvas' Borders: for home and office Decor with the canvas and often the image itself appearing to be ‘Wrapped’ around a stretcher giving the appearance of a block. To do this we make a print that incorporates a 63.5mm border: 40mm runs down the side of the stretcher and 23.5mm wraps around the back for stapling. We add an extra 63.5mm border to all canvas sizes for FREE: To allow for frame stretcher 'wrapping' we add a 40mm 'side border' plus a 23.5mm 'back stapling' border. You can choose to leave the 40mm side border blank white, have it coloured to match the image or 'wrap' the image around the sides. If the main subject is too close to the edge of the frame we can retouch the background to extend it the required 40mm. This is how it works... A.
We can leave the whole 65mm canvas border blank for 'white sides' wrapping...
B. We can print the image 40mm bigger on all sides so that it ‘wraps’
around the stretcher frame...
C.
We can print a matching colour 40mm on all sides of the image to add a classic
border...
E.
We design exhibition 'Templates' with 'Faux Matte' borders, logo, title,
signature even multiple images... Call David Myers on (02) 9949 6090 to discuss logo and signature integration, typography and 'pencil text' options.
